The Catholic Church in Australia has recently updated its Recommended Hymns and Songs Approved by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (ACBC), publishing a new list of Contemporary Hymn and Song Exemplars on its website Catholic Church in Australia.
The list provides some suitable examples of contemporary hymns and songs for use by the assembly that have been published since Catholic Worship Book II or which were included in overseas Catholic collections not considered at the time when CWBII was published. Each hymn and song includes the liturgical, musical and pastoral assessments involved including the item in the Exemplar List. There are also links to YouTube and audio files for listening, as well as publisher details.
Composers include Owen Alstott, Steve Angrisano, Ed Bolduc, Ed Cash, Bernadette Farrell, Matt Maher, Fr Ricky Manalo CSP, Paul Mason, Jonas Myran, Matt Redman, Jesse Reeves, Curtis Stephan, Chris Tomlin and Steve Warner.
Also included are contemporary arrangements of classic hymns by Tony Alonso, Sarah Hart, Tom Kendzia, Rick Modlin and Curtis Stephan.
